Scientists Create Dry Water, and on the Seventh Day They Rested

27 Aug

A group of scientists at the University of Liverpool claim that they have created “dry” water, which is composed of actual water droplets surrounded by a coating of silica, thus its powdered form. The scientists are quick to state, however, that this dry water is aimed for public consumption, but for absorbing greenhouse gases. Their research has shown that dry water is three times better when it comes to absorbing carbon dioxide compared to normal wet water. Another possible use of this dry water is as catalyst for “speeding up reactions between hydrogen and maleic acid” to create succinic acid, an important component in making drugs, food stuff, and consumer products. They are considered as “dry emulsions” for blending unblendable liquids.

Digital SLR Camera Guides For Non-Professionals

19 Aug

There are a LOT of digital SLR camera guides out there on the web. I should know – I’ve read most of them. While they provide a lot of great information about how a camera works, they can be quite intimidating to the first-time digital SLR camera buyer. And that’s exactly who the digital SLR guides on this site are geared for. You won’t need a technical degree to understand them, nor do you have to have ANY previous photography experience.

I follow three simple guiding principles for every camera guide that I post to this site  :

2. I’m Not Biased
3. I Love Taking Photos

Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi Introduction

19 Aug

Though it was still the hottest selling digital SLR on the market, the Canon Digital Rebel XT was due for an upgrade, and right on the expected 18 month schedule comes the EOS Digital Rebel XTi (called the EOS 400D overseas). The new Rebel XTi has a 10.1 megapixel sensor, a 2.5 inch LCD screen, and a new dust cleaning system; and like its EOS brothers, the Rebel XTi will work with a vast system of over 50 lenses and a wide array of accessories. It borrows a lot of other recent innovations from recent EOS cameras, including PictBridge printing enhancements, Picture Styles mode settings, and it and comes in at $100 less than its predecessor. More importantly, the Rebel XT maintains the high image quality we’ve come to expect from Canon’s SLRs, from the Rebels to the 1D-series.

Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS: Big Performance in a Compact Package

19 Aug

Thanks to its very good image quality, wide-aperture lens, and aperture-priority and shutter-priority modes, the Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS ($350 as of August 13, 2010) is a standout camera in the compact point-and-shoot class. Although its glossy finish, lack of physical buttons, and pocket-friendly size would suggest otherwise, its performance is on a par with that of the excellent Canon PowerShot S90, a camera geared toward demanding photographers.
